UFC veteran Tyson Griffin will make his promotional debut at World Series of Fighting 4, when he squares off with Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante.
WSOF president Ray Sefo and executive vice president Ali Abdel-Aziz confirmed the bout to MMAWeekly.com. It was first reported by Brazilian website Tatame.com.
A 1-4 skid saw him ushered out of the Octagon in late 2011, but Griffin (16-6) has undergone a lot of changes in the past couple years.
He rejuvenated his training with a move from Xtreme Couture to American Kickboxing Academy. Griffin then defeated The Ultimate Fighter 8 lightweight winner Efrain Escudero at RFA 4 late last year before signing with the World Series of Fighting.
Cavalcante (17-7-1) was consistently regarded one of the Top 10 lightweights in the world in the early to mid 2000s, but has had a rough time gaining any momentum over the past few years, losing more often than winning.
He is 1-1 fighting for WSOF, having competed on their first two fight cards.
WSOF 4 is slated for Aug. 10 in Ontario, Calif., the promotion’s second trip outside of its home base of Las Vegas.
