A welterweight bout between Brazilian mixed martial artist Thiago Alves (19-9 MMA, 11-6 UFC) and TUF 7 competitor Matt Brown (17-11 MMA, 10-5 UFC) is planned for UFC’s debut on the new FOX Sports 1 cable network.

The event takes place August 17 at TD Bank Garden in Boston.

Brown holds a five-fight win streak. In his last fight “The Immortal” TKO’d (punches & elbows) Jordan Mein in round two at UFC on Fox: Henderson vs. Melendez on April 20 in San Jose, California. This fight also earned “Fight of the Night” award.

Alves has been with the UFC since 2005. He began his way to the top by beating Chris Lytle, Karo Parisyan and Matt Hughes TKOing all of them. Then “Pitbull” won Josh Koscheck by unanimous decision at UFC 90 on October 25, 2008 in Rosemont, Illinois what gave him a title shot opportunity against GSP. However Alves lost to Georges St-Pierre by unanimous decision at UFC 100 on July 11, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Then his “Golden age” went down as he lost three out of his past five fights. In his last fight Alves was submitted (guillotine choke) in the end of the fight by Danish striker Martin Kampmann at UFC on FX: Alves vs. Kampmann on March 3, 2012 in Sydney, Australia.
