As far as returns go, Josh Thomson‘s wasn’t bad. It wasn’t bad at all.
Thomson (20-5 MMA, 3-1 UFC), returning to the UFC for the first time in nine years, stopped recent lightweight title challenger Nate Diaz (16-9 MMA, 11-7 UFC) with a second-round TKO after landing a massive kick to the head.
The two slugged it out early, with Thomson choosing his moments to engage Diaz even as Diaz taunted him to come forward. But in the second, Thomson’s vicious head kick was on the button. It planted Diaz on the canvas, and Thomson was in quick for the finish as Diaz tried to recover in vain.
The lightweight bout was part of the main card of Saturday’s UFC on FOX 7 card at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. The main card aired on FOX following prelims on FX and Facebook.
