If people didn’t know who Cat Zingano was before Saturday, they do now. Or they will very soon.
Zingano (8-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) stopped Miesha Tate (13-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) with a third-round TKO victory, surviving a couple rough rounds with the former Strikeforce champion to rally for the win.
Zingano, who like Tate was making her UFC debut in just the second women’s fight in the promotion’s history, started landing knees in the third and then rained down punches on her opponent. The win advanced Zingano to a coaching spot on “TUF 18? opposite women’s champ Ronda Rousey, and the two will fight at the season’s conclusion.
The bantamweight bout was part of the main card of The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale card Saturday at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The main card aired on FX following prelims on FUEL TV and Facebook.
