Perhaps the most hyped “Ultimate Fighter” finalist in the show’s history was upset on Saturday by one of the biggest underdogs in the show’s history.

Kelvin Gastelum (6-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) upset Uriah Hall (7-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) by split decision to win Season 17 of the show. Gastelum showed no fear of standing and trading with Hall, who sent two fighters to the hospital during the show. But it was his takedown game that helped win him the fight.

Hall was able to reverse some of Gastelum’s takedowns with some slick wrestling of his own. But Gastelum kept Hall out of his dangerous striking game, something no one on the show was able to do.

The middleweight bout was the co-main event of The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale card Saturday at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The main card aired on FX following prelims on FUEL TV and Facebook.
