Resurrection Fighting Alliance has embarked on a bold strategy to take its product across the United States by partnering up with area promotions. The first of which is RFA 7: Thatch vs. Rhodes, which takes place Friday night at 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colo.
RFA 7 is a partnership with Denver’s Ring of Fire promotion, which isn’t going anywhere, even though company president Sven Bean has joined Resurrection’s executive branch.
Before RFA 7 hits the cage on Friday night, however, the fighters first weighed in on Thursday.
Main eventers Brandon Thatch and Mike Rhodes – two of the hottest welterweight prospects on the regional scene – hit the mark for their agreed-upon 172-pound catchweight bout, although the same couldn’t be said for Chidi Njokuani and Jeremy Kimball.
Njokuani and Kimball were supposed to meet at a catchweight of 177.5 pounds, but both fighters missed the mark. Njokuani weighed in at 180.2 pounds, while Kimball tipped the scale at 180.4 pounds. With both fighters being nearly identical in their overage, they agreed to fight at the slightly higher weight.
The Colorado Office of Boxing, which oversees mixed martial arts events in the state, did not penalize either fighter.
