Video: Writer who calls MMA 'disgusting, barbaric entertainment' on 'Inside MMA'

“I think it’s a disgusting, barbaric entertainment event,” Dave Begel said. “I can’t even call it a sport. It’s absolutely ridiculous to think that people do this and pay money to watch this kind of crap.”

Those are comments from Dave Begel, an OnMilwaukee.com columnist who clearly has no respect or adoration for the sport of mixed martial arts.

In fact, in a recent column, he called the recent UFC 157 headliner between Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche “a disgrace” and MMA a “gruesome display of unbridled violence egged on by a crowd of rabid bloodlusters.”

On Friday’s edition of “Inside MMA” on AXS TV, hosts Kenny Rice and Bas Rutten attempted a dialogue with Begel – with marginal success. After all, no comments from the hosts could better determine his baffling stance than the writer’s own words. Take, for instance, his comments directed at Rutten, a former UFC champion and MMA trailblazer.

“MMA is designed to hurt somebody,” Begel said. “You invented the liver shot. The idea behind the liver shot was either to hit or kick somebody in the liver and cause them so much pain that they can’t go on with the fight. I mean, what kind of a world are we living in when that happens?”

Check out the full conversation, which detours into some peculiar lesbian chat, above.
