A great start for women in the UFC

Some time ago I watched a video on Youtube where UFC president Dana White was asked if women would ever step inside the UFC octagon and where Mr. White answered fast and very determined: “Never!”

I personally don’t like seeing women fight so I immediately agreed with the UFC president and also I could never believe that women fighting would actually earn the UFC big money. But I think what changed my mind was to see the Strikeforce fight between Cyborg and Carano. That fight had so much attention to it. And shortly after came Rousey to Strikeforce, an ex-Olympic judo medalist who managed to draw even more audience to watch women fight in MMA.

And there you go, Dana White sees the big opportunity making money and organized the UFC 157 at Honda Center in Anaheim, California where a historic UFC event happened when two women battled not just as the a main event, but also for title.

White said at the UFC 157 post-fight press conference that the event produced a $1.4 million gate and an attendance of 15,525. Official numbers will be available from the California State Athletic Commission in the coming days.
