Report: Fox to Rebrand Fuel TV, Remove Sports Programming from FX in August

Fox Sports is expected to unveil a new 24-hour sports channel this summer, and its arrival will likely signal the end of the UFC on FX and UFC on Fuel TV-branded events as they are currently known.

According to a report from Sports Media Watch , Fuel TV will be converted into Fox Sports 2 in August, while the Speed Channel will be converted to Fox Sports 1. Fuel is currently in 37.6 million homes, while Speed is present in 81 million households. Meanwhile FX, which previously aired college football, Major League Baseball and NASCAR in addition to UFC events, will no longer carry sports programming.

It is currently unclear how this will affect the UFC’s agreement with Fox, as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement regarding the news. As it stands, the promotion is set to air its seventh and eighth UFC on Fuel TV events in February and March, with a ninth offering headlined by Alexander Gustafsson and Gegard Mousasi set for Sweden in April.

UFC on FX 7 was held in Sao Paulo, Brazil this past Saturday, but no more UFC on FX events are currently scheduled at this time. However, “The Ultimate Fighter 17” debuts on the network Tuesday. It is also unclear whether “TUF” will eventually be removed from FX along with other sports content.

The UFC signed a seven-year deal with Fox in August 2011. As part of the agreement, the promotion was to air events and other MMA-related programming on FX and Fuel as well as quarterly events on Fox.
