Sherdog.com confirmed the booking on Thursday with a source close to the fighters. Bellator 83 takes place at Caesars Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, N.J., and the evening’s main draw airs on MTV2. No fights have been officially announced for the event. MMAJunkie.com first reported the Gurgel-Eye matchup.
Returning from surgery to repair a torn ACL, Gurgel, 28, recently competed for the first time in more than 18 months when she outpointed Casey Noland six days ago at Bellator 78. Gurgel’s last two fights have taken place at 125 pounds, and she has yet to defend the strawweight title she captured two years ago when she outpointed Jessica Penne, Jessica Aguilar and Megumi Fujii in the Season 3 tournament.
Eye rides a five-fight winning streak heading into her third Bellator appearance. The 26-year-old made her promotional debut just over 13 months ago, taking a split decision from Noland before reemerging in Bellator this past April to record a unanimous verdict over Anita Rodriguez. Most recently, the once-beaten Ohioan outpointed Angela Magana on Aug. 17 under the North American Allied Fight Series banner.
