One FC: Wiratchai-Chilson Undercard Bout Ruled No-Contest Due to Illegal Soccer Kick

Singapore-based promotion One Fighting Championship announced Tuesday that Shannon Wiratchai’s second-round stoppage of Mitch Chilson at One FC 5 has been overturned to a no-contest.

“After a thorough review of the match, One FC officials have decided that Wiratchai landed an illegal kick to a grounded Chilson in round two,” read an official statement. “Referee Moritaka Oshiro incorrectly stopped the fight, as he determined at that point that Chilson could not properly defend himself. This win for Wiratchai has now been reversed, and this fight will now be officially ruled as a no-contest.”

As a result of the decision, Chilson avoids what would have been his second career defeat. The 34-year-old has competed thrice for One FC thus far, posting a 1-1 record, excluding the no-contest. Meanwhile, Wiratchai will have his third victory removed from his record. “One Shin” has yet to taste defeat, beginning his pro career with two victories prior to Friday’s miscue.

The aforementioned undercard attraction was not the only contest affected by One FC’s “open attack” rule, which dictates the referee much give verbal permission to a fighter before he attempts a kick to the head of his grounded foe. Andrei Arlovski’s heavyweight rematch with Tim Sylvia was also ruled a no-contest after Sylvia could not continue due to another illegal kick. One FC officials recently announced that all soccer kicks will now be legal moving forward in order to avoid any further confusion.

Subtitled “Pride of a Nation,” One FC 5 took place Aug. 31 at Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Philippines. The show streamed live on pay-per-view and was headlined by a bantamweight confrontation between former two-division Dream champion Bibiano Fernandes and Gustavo Falciroli.
