Danny Castillo-Michael Johnson, Jacob Volkmann-Shane Roller Transplanted to UFC on FX 5

The fights were originally supposed to be contested Sept. 1 at UFC 151 in Las Vegas, but UFC President Dana White canceled that event on Thursday. UFC on FX 5 takes place Oct. 5 at the Target Center in Minneapolis and is headlined by a heavyweight confrontation between former Strikeforce standout Antonio Silva and unbeaten talent Travis Browne.

An eight-time World Extreme Cagefighting veteran, Castillo, 32, rides a three-fight winning streak into his showdown with Johnson. “Last Call” emerged victorious in three of his four outings last year, besting Joe Stevenson, Shamar Bailey and Anthony Njokuani before kicking off 2012 with a May 5 win over John Cholish.

Johnson, meanwhile, put forth arguably the best performance of his UFC career in most recent in-cage appearance, using his continually improving standup skills to outpoint “Ultimate Fighter” Season 13 winner Tony Ferguson at UFC on Fox 3. The win serves as the second straight triumph for “The Menace,” who began this year with a Jan. 28 unanimous decision victory over Roller.

Volkmann saw a five-fight winning streak snapped on May 26 when fell into the guard of submission specialist Paul Sass, who locked up his signature triangle choke to hand “Christmas” his first UFC loss as a lightweight. Volkmann, 31, competed thrice last year, taking decisions from Antonio McKee, Castillo and “TUF 8” winner Efrain Escudero.

Roller, 33, righted his ship in his most recent bout after falling in three straight fights to Melvin Guillard, T.J. Grant and Johnson. The Team Takedown representative used superior wrestling to control veteran John Alessio at UFC 148, taking a unanimous verdict from “The Natural” on July 7.
