The event took place June 23 at Felipe Drumond Stadium in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and was headlined by a 190-pound catch-weight rematch between former UFC champion Rich Franklin and ex-Pride Fighting Championships titlist Wanderlei Silva. Franklin outlasted “The Axe Murderer” to take a unanimous, five-round decision, though Silva nearly finished the fight with strikes in the second frame.

Both main event competitors were tested for performance enhancing drugs and drugs of abuse, as were the other 20 fighters who competed at the event. When the UFC holds events in the United States, athletic commissions are responsible for overseeing fighter drug tests. However, when the organization visits countries that lack such regulatory bodies, the UFC conducts them independently, with Ratner coordinating the testing with third-party labs.

Franklin's victory over Silva in the pay-per-view headliner was preceded by Brazilian heavyweight Fabricio Werdum's first-round stoppage of Mike Russow. The main card also featured featherweight Rony Mariano Bezerra and middleweight Cezar Ferreira, as Rony “Jason” and Cezar “Mutante” defeated Godofredo Castro and Sergio Moraes to become the inaugural winners of “The Ultimate Fighter Brazil.”
