Scoring Error Corrected for UFC on FX 3; Mike Pierce Now Unanimous Decision Victor

Mike Pierce and Carlos Eduardo Rocha squared off last week at UFC on FX 3: Johnson vs. McCall II in Sunrise, Fla.

What resulted was utter domination by Pierce. He picked him apart in the stand-up game, secured several takedowns, and dictated the pace of the entire fight. Even Rocha’s cornermen knew their fighter was behind, imploring him to find a way to finish the fight in the final round, as he needed a finish to get the win.

Pierce wasn’t exactly robbed, but when the judges’ scorecards were read, nearly everyone was shocked that it was a split decision with scores reading 30-27 across the board; twice for Pierce, once for Rocha.

UFC officials on Wednesday evening, however, revealed via Twitter that there had actually been a scoring error for the bout.

“UFC on FX3 update – judge scored for the wrong corner in Pierce vs. Rocha, @MikePierce170 won a UD, not SD,” read the UFC’s tweet.

So the bout will go down officially as a unanimous decision victory in Pierce’s favor, now that the judge who had marked his scorecard incorrectly has had it cleared up.

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation was unavailable for comment at the time of publication.
