Erick Silva hadn’t tasted defeat for 10 fights before losing by a controversial disqualification to Carlo Prater early this year. That loss left a very sour taste in his mouth.
Silva washed the taste out of his mouth on Friday night with an impressive finish of Charlie Brenneman at UFC on FX 3 in Southern Florida.
Brenneman came out of the gate like a man possessed, however, immediately closing the distance and trying to use his wrestling to either tie Silva up on the fence or put him down on the mat. It was a smart strategy, trying to negate Silva’s dynamic striking, but it only worked for the first few minutes of the fight.
Silva finally settled in after the midway point of the round and started landing a combination of kicks and punches that were taking Brenneman out of his element.
Brenneman shot late in the round, but Silva sprawled it out and worked his way to Brenneman’s back. From there, he quickly sunk in a rear naked choke that left Brenneman no way out.
And just like that, Erick Silva is back on the winning track, improving his record to 2-1 in the UFC and 14-2 overall.
