UFC 150 Update: Luiz Cane Makes Middleweight Debut against Yushin Okami at Denver’s Pepsi Center

UFC officials confirmed Friday that former title challenger Yushin Okami will welcome Luiz Cane to the middleweight division at UFC 150.

Additionally, the promotion verified that Dennis Hallman will meet Thiago Tavares in a lightweight duel at the Aug. 11 event, which takes place at the Pepsi Center in Denver. UFC 150 marks the promotion’s first trip to the Mile High City since UFC 135 this past September.

Widely regarded as one of the sport’s top 185-pound talents, Okami had a three-fight winning streak snapped when he was dominated by longtime divisional ruler Anderson Silva at UFC 134 last year. “Thunder” returned to the cage on Feb. 26 and controlled Tim Boetsch for much of their UFC 144 contest before the American unleashed a flurry in round three that forced referee Leon Robertson to save Okami from further punishment at 54 seconds of the final frame.

Meanwhile, Cane makes the cut to middleweight after losing three of his last four outings at 205 pounds. “Banha” was most recently turned away this past August in Rio de Janeiro, falling by technical knockout to heavy-handed Bulgarian Stanislav Nedkov in the first round of their UFC 134 affair. Cane is an eight-time UFC veteran and holds Octagon victories over Jason Lambert, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, Steve Cantwell and Eliot Marshall.
