Bellator Fighting Championships Posts 175,000 Viewers for Bellator 62 on MTV2

Bellator Fighting Championships rebounded from a season-low 108,000 viewers last week, earning an average of 175,000 observers for Friday’s Bellator 62 on MTV2.

Sherdog.com confirmed the viewership figure on Tuesday morning with an industry source, who also asserted that Bellator’s Spike.com live stream was up 110 percent from the previous week.

Taking place at the Laredo Energy Center in Laredo, Texas, Bellator 62 showcased the opening round of the Chicago-based promotion’s sixth-season lightweight tournament. In perhaps the most notable victory of the evening, Lloyd Woodard submitted Patricky Freire, eliminating the Season 4 tournament finalist by cranking a kimura early in round two.

Lightweight debutants Rick Hawn and Brent Weedman also took home victories on Friday night, as the former welterweights finished Ricardo Tirloni and J.J. Ambrose in impressive fashion. Hawn felled Tirloni with a devastating right hand and pounded him out at 2:36 of round one, while Weedman forced a game Ambrose to tap in the second stanza to an expertly applied shoulder choke. Rounding out the lightweight field, Thiago Michel Pereira Silva used a superior standup attack to outpoint expat countryman Rene Nazare by split decision.
