Castillo-Cholish Lightweight Bout Booked for UFC on Fox 3 in May

The UFC on Fox 3 fight card has another new addition, as promotion officials Tuesday announced that verbal agreements are in place for a lightweight confrontation between John Cholish and Danny Castillo.

The contest marks the third announced 155-pound affair for the May 5 event, including the evening’s five-round headliner between Jim Miller and Nate Diaz. The show takes place at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J.

Castillo, 32, has won five of his last six fights. The eight-time WEC veteran made his UFC debut in March, outpointing former lightweight title contender Joe Stevenson at UFC Live 3. Though “Last Call” would suffer a setback to fellow wrestler Jacob Volkmann in his next outing, Castillo rebounded with a pair of wins to close out 2011, knocking out Shamar Bailey at UFC 139 before edging Anthony Njokuani just over five weeks later at UFC 141.

Four years the junior of his opponent, Cholish (Pictured) has not lost since stumbling in his 2007 pro debut. The Renzo Gracie pupil was stellar in 2011, submitting “Ultimate Fighter” alum Marc Stevens in February and WEC veteran Jameel Massouh in June. Most recently, the Cornell graduate impressed in his inaugural UFC effort, dispatching Mitch Clarke via second-round technical knockout at UFC 140 on Dec. 10.
