UFC on Fox 2: Bedford-Gagnon Scratched, Beltran-Johnson Promoted

Just three days before showtime, a bantamweight showdown between Johnny Bedford and Mitch Gagnon has been scratched from the UFC on Fox 2 fight bill due to visa issues, promotion officials announced Wednesday.

UFC on Fox 2 takes place Saturday at the United Center in Chicago. Featuring a middleweight confrontation between Chael Sonnen and Michael Bisping, as well as a light heavyweight contest pitting Phil Davis against Rashad Evans, the show’s three-fight main card will air live on Fox’s flagship network.

Bedford and Gagnon were slated to compete on what was an eight-fight undercard, most of which will be broadcast on Fox-owned cable station Fuel TV. However, the recent removal of the bantamweight tilt has reduced the size of the card from 11 to 10 fights. As a result of the change, heavyweights Joey Beltran and Lavar Johnson will now see their bout promoted to the Fuel TV broadcast.

Following a knockout defeat to John Dodson in the semifinals of “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 14, Bedford rebounded with a dominant win over fellow cast member Louis Gaudinot at the live finale on Dec. 3. Excluding his exhibition loss to Dodson, “Brutal” has won seven of his last eight fights, finishing five of his conquered opponents by either knockout or submission.

Gagnon, 27, has ended each of his wins via submission, posting a nearly perfect record since turning pro in 2008. The Canadian’s lone defeat came in 2009, when he was outpointed by William Romero at XMMA 7. Since that loss, Gagnon has rattled off six consecutive victories, most recently finishing David Harris with a guillotine choke on Oct. 21.
