UFC 141 Bonuses: Diaz, Cerrone, Hendricks Nab $75,000 Apiece

Welterweight upsetter Johny Hendricks and co-main eventers Nate Diaz and Donald Cerrone walked away from UFC 141 with $75,000 post-fight bonuses on Saturday night.

Diaz and Cerrone shared “Fight of the Night” honors for their three-round lightweight affair, while Hendricks (Pictured, file photo) was awarded “Knockout of the Night.” As none of the card’s 10 bouts ended with a submission, no “Submission of the Night” bonus was awarded.

Headlined by a heavyweight tilt between ex-Strikeforce champ Alistair Overeem and former UFC titleholder Brock Lesnar, UFC 141 took place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Though Cerrone showed great heart in going the distance with his rangy opponent, Diaz’s sharp boxing ultimately made the difference, as the Stockton, Calif., product continually battered Cerrone with straight punches. Cerrone attempted to stifle Diaz’s boxing attack by using his kicks to chop at his opponent’s legs, but it proved a futile effort, as Diaz received a unanimous nod from the judges.

Hendricks became the first man to finish the highly-regarded Jon Fitch since Wilson Gouveia in 2002. The former Oklahoma State wrestling standout clipped Fitch with the first punch he threw, a sharp left hook that toppled the pound-for-pound stalwart. The bout was waved off in just 12 seconds, marking only the second defeat for Fitch in 16 UFC appearances.
