Officials announced the bout on Sunday via the UFC’s Brazilian twitter account.
Assuncao (16-4) has suffered a mixed bag since plying his wares under the Zuffa banner. He has gone 3-3 in combining his bouts for WEC and UFC, although he’s just 1-3 in his last four tries. Assuncao is coming off a knockout at the hands of Erik Koch at UFC 128.
He was originally slated to face Darren Uyenoyama. A report by Sherdog.com indicated that Uyenoyama had unresolved issues surrounding a contract with the Japanese Shoot promotion, which may be why he was scratched from the UFC 134 fight card.
Eduardo (25-8) is new to the Octagon, but is by no stretch a newbie to mixed martial arts. The 33 fights he has under his belt stretch back to November of 1996, even though he’s only 32 years old.
Eduardo is currently on an 11-fight winning streak that dates back to early 2008.
The UFC 134 fight card is headlined by a middleweight title bout between current champion Anderson Silva and number-one contender Yushin Okami. The event takes place on Aug. 27 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
