Semerzier-Lullo Ticketed for UFC Fight Night 25

Verbal agreements are in place for a featherweight scrap pitting Mackens Semerzier against Mike Lullo at UFC Fight Night 25, the promotion announced on Friday.

Also known as “Battle on the Bayou,” the show goes down Sept. 17 and will be headlined by a welterweight bout between Jake Shields and Jake Ellenberger. The event marks the UFC’s first appearance in Louisiana since 2002, as the event will emanate from the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.

Semerzier (Pictured; file photo) recently snapped a three-fight losing streak, earning a dominant victory in his March UFC debut over Alex Caceres at UFC Fight Night 24. A WEC export, “Mack Da Menace” posted only a 1-3 record in the little blue cage but is known for putting forth exciting performances. He joined the promotion in 2009, shockingly submitting jiu-jitsu ace Wagnney Fabiano with a triangle choke at WEC 43. Semerzier subsequently dropped bouts to Deividas Taurosevicius, Javier Vazquez and Cub Swanson before making his Octagon debut on March 26.

Representing the Midwest Training Center, Lullo had won eight straight before receiving the call to fight in the UFC. Upon his arrival, the 33-year-old was welcomed rudely to the Octagon by fellow debutant Edson Mendes Barboza Jr. The Brazilian continually chopped away at Lullo’s lead leg in their November clash, battering the appendage en route to a third-round technical knockout. Lullo has submitted six of his eight career victims and has never been submitted as a pro.
