Murphy’s Law seems to haunt Rashad Evans like no fighter before.

Just three weeks away from his scheduled bout at UFC 133, Evans’ opponent, Phil Davis, has been forced out of the fight with a knee injury.

Davis’ withdrawal was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the match-up on Tuesday evening. MMAFighting.com initially reported the change.

Davis was entering the fight as an undefeated prospect looking to take one step closer towards the top of the light heavyweight division by facing Evans. Now it appears he’ll have to wait for his opportunity at a later date.

A variety of circumstances have kept Evans out of the cage since defeating Quinton “Rampage” Jackson on Memorial Day weekend of 2010. The Evans-Davis bout came about because UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones had pulled out of a schedule bout with Evans.

At this time, the UFC has not officially announced Davis’ withdrawal or a replacement to face Evans.

MMAWeekly.com will continue to follow this story as it develops.
