UFC 134 Fight Card Adds Antonio Carvalho vs. Yuri Alcantara in Featherweight Bout

The Ultimate Fighting Championship on Tuesday took to Twitter to confirm a UFC 134: Rio featherweight bout between Antonio Carvalho and Yuri Alcantara.

The UFC 134: Rio fight card, which takes place on Aug. 27 in Rio de Janeiro, is loaded with local talent. Rumored for some time, Alcantara is the latest official Brazilian addition.

UFC Brazil FlagThis marks the first time fighting in the UFC for both fighters, although Alcantara has fought for parent-company Zuffa before. He defeated Ricardo Lamas in a lightweight bout at WEC 53 in December.

The inaugural Jungle Fight lightweight champion, Alcantara (24-3) drops down to featherweight for the fight with Carvalho. He has fought primarily in Brazil, so he’ll at least be in comfortable surroundings when he fights at UFC 134.

Alcantar has won his 11 most recent bouts. Only twice has he gone to a decision in his 27 fights, once for a loss, once for a win.

Carvalho (13-4) has never fought for Zuffa nor has he fought in Brazil. He has spent most of his career in Canada and Japan.

Carvalho started off his career a perfect 8-0, but had mediocre results in Japan, where he went 3-3 in six bouts, primarily fighting for Shooto. He has most recently reeled off three consecutive victories since returning to Canada.

Top ranked UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva defends his belt against number-two ranked middleweight Yushin Okami in the UFC 134: Rio main event. The fight card will be available globally on pay-per-view.
