Wednesday was a busy day for UFC matchmaker Joe Silva. He had several fights came to fruition, while numerous others fell apart.
Krzysztof Soszynski’s UFC 131 bout falls into the latter category. His original opponent, Anthony Perosh, had to withdraw due to a torn retina. He was immediately replaced by Igor Pokrajac. The promotion tweeted the news Wednesday evening.
Soszynski (25-11-1) comes into the bout having healed up from three recent surgeries. He had both of his knees cleaned out, as well as surgery to repair a deviated septum.
“I’m coming off three surgeries (about) 10 weeks ago,” Soszynski told MMAWeekly.com recently. “It’s been a while since my last fight. I’m looking to get back in there in that Octagon and lay some punches on somebody; it’s been a little while.”
Only now, instead of an Aussie, he will be facing his second consecutive Croatian fighter.
Pokrajac (23-8) is 2-3 in the Octagon, likely staving off a pink slip after he defeated Todd Brown in March.
TUF 13 coaches Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos headline UFC 131 on June 11 in Vancouver.
