Cody McKenzie Steps In To Face Yves Edwards At UFC Fight For The Troops Show

It took the UFC less than 24 hours to find Yves Edwards a new opponent for UFC Fight for the Troops 2. He will face “Ultimate Fighter” season 12 competitor Cody McKenzie in a lightweight bout on the card.

The news was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the match-up, who stated verbal agreements are in place for the Jan. 22 fight.

Edwards was originally scheduled to face Melvin Guillard at the event. A late injury to Kenny Florian, however, forced him out of his main event bout. Guillard was pulled from the Edwards fight to replace Florian against Evan Dunham.

Making his return to the UFC in September, Edwards successfully defeated John Gunderson kicking off his latest run in the Octagon, and he’ll look to go two for two in January.

McKenzie accepted the fight with Edwards just days after his “Submission of the Night” victory over former Ultimate Fighter housemate Aaron Wilkinson. McKenzie slapped on his patented guillotine choke, which has brought him more than a few victories during his career.

The lightweights will meet as a part of the UFC Fight For The Troops 2 on Jan. 22 at Fort Hood, Texas.
