Schneider, Carmouche Meet in Strikeforce Tourney Reserve Bout

Colleen Schneider and Liz Carmouche are waiting in the wings as potential replacements for the 135-pound, four-women tournament scheduled for Strikeforce Challengers 10 on Aug. 13 at the Dodge Theater in Phoenix, Ariz.

Schneider and Carmouche will meet in a reserve bout that evening, with the winner on tap to step in should Miesha Tate, Hitomi Akano, Carina Damm or Maiju Kujala be unable to continue into the tournament’s final bout.

A Tae Kwon Do veteran, Schneider went 4-0 in amateur action before making her pro debut in March -- a second-round loss to Sarah D'Alelio at a Fitetime Entertainment event last March in Fairbanks, Alaska. The Oakland, Calif., resident trains alongside Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez.

The 25-year-old Carmouche is 2-0 in pro competition, and most recently earned a second-round TKO stoppage against Margarita de la Cruz at Ultimate Warrior Challenge on June 26 in Tijuana, Mexico. Carmouche hails from Undisputed Fitness and Training in San Diego.

Strikeforce will draw the tournament’s two semi-final matchups at the official day-before weigh-ins, while the four women’s bouts will be shortened from five- to three-minute rounds.

According to guidelines distributed by Strikeforce, “If a tournament match is scored a draw, a fourth, 'sudden victory' round will be contested to determine the winner. That sudden victory round will be scored independently and will determine which fighter advances."

Strikeforce Challengers 10 airs live on Showtime beginning at 11 p.m. ET/PT.
