Couture, who weighed in at 205 pounds on Friday, is returning from a controversial decision over Brandon Vera at UFC 105, his first fight since dropping back down to the light heavyweight division. Consecutive losses to Brock Lesnar and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira pushed the five-time former champ back to the lighter weight division. At 46 years of age, Couture, a 2006 selection to the UFC Hall of Fame, hopes to prove he is still a title contender.
Coleman fought in the UFC for the first time in 10 years in early 2009. He has split a pair of bouts since his return, losing by TKO to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua before outpointing Stephan Bonnar at UFC 100 last July. The 45-year-old Coleman, a 2008 inductee to the UFC Hall of Fame, also tipped the scales at 205 pounds.
The co-main event between Nate Marquardt (186) and Chael Sonnen (185) was also made official Friday. The two will meet to decide the next challenger for the middleweight title.
