World Extreme Cagefighting announced Friday the entire card for its upcoming WEC 40 event scheduled for Sunday, April 5 at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois.
Slated to headline the event is WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres taking on Takeya Mizugaki, Mizugaki, the fifth rated bantamweight according to WAMMA’s top ten rankings, was signed as a late replacement for injured number one contender Brian Bowles and will be making his WEC debut.
Also scheduled to be televised as a part of VERSUS’ telecast is Jeff Curran’s bantamweight debut. Curran’s first fight at 135 pounds will be taking place against Joseph Benavidez, a protege of former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber.
Highly-touted featherweight Raphael Assucano’s WEC debut against Jameel Massouh is also slated for the main card along with former NCAA All-American wrestler Shane Roller taking on Benson Henderson is a lightweight contest.
The non-televised portion of the card is stacked with bantamweight title contenders Akitoshi Tamura and Manny Tapia set to go head-to-head along with former IFL featherweight champion Wagnney Fabiano taking on Fredson Paixao.
Additional undercard matchups include Cub Swanson vs. Diego Nunes, Rani Yahya vs. Eddie Wineland, Dominick Cruz vs. Ivan Lopez, Rafael Dias vs. Cole Province, and Anthony Njokuani vs. Anthony Pettis.
