At the "Beat the Streets" wrestling gala fundraiser last week in Times Square, The Fight Nerd caught up with Jeff Blatnick. Blatnick won the NCAA Division II heavyweight wrestling championships in 1978 and 1979 and an Olympic gold in 1984. He was also a commentator along with Bruce Beck in the golden days of the UFC and worked with the company for many years, as well as commentating at YAMMA Pit Fighting!
I spoke with Blatnick about the charity event we were at and why wrestling is so important to have in schools, his thoughts on Randy Couture's retirement at UFC 129 after his knockout loss at the hands, or more accurately the feet, of Lyoto Machida, and why wrestlers have been so dominant in the sport of MMA.
